A Salmon for President Harding

Presentation of salmon to President and Mrs. Harding, 07/08/1923 (detail)
During a tour of Alaska in 1923, President Warren G. Harding was presented with a prize salmon by the residents of Metlakahtla, Alaska. The caption reads "Pres. and Mrs. Harding inspect the gigantic salmon, the finest of the season, which were presented to them by enthusiastic fishermen at Metlakahtla. Note that the First Lady’s bouquet is of native flowers–a subtle compliment. "

This photo is from the Sir Henry Wellcome Collection, and is one of a series depicting inhabitants of Metlakatla, British Columbia and Metlakatla, Alaska.
