Crimea politics invade the football pitch

The ongoing Crimean crisis is already affecting the region’s top football teams.

Tavria Simferopol and FC Sevastopol will finish this season in Ukraine’s league, but could be forced to compete in the Russian league in the next.

Some political figures are also questioning Russia’s hosting of the 2018 World Cup.

The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, signed into law a treaty on Friday, formally making Crimea part of the Russian Federation.

Al Jazeera’s Elise Holman reports.
