PASCAGOULA, Mississippi — The mother of the little girl who was injured on a school playground has asked for donations through a GoFundMe account to help with medical expenses. The Justice for AvaLynn Facebook page says now illegitimate accounts have been set up asking for donations.

The Justice for AvaLynn Facebook page notes, “Anyone asking for help or for donations on any medium besides this page or the GoFundMe page linked to in this page’s information is trying to scam people.”

The post asked people to report pages made by “scammers” and the comments flowed in.

One of the commenters brought attention to an Instagram page, Support4Avalynn, that had 13,000 followers.

The GoFundMe account has reached $5,961 as of Sunday morning.

Gulflive.com spoke with Pascagoula Police and reported the incident happened at Arlington Elementary on Tuesday and the girl’s mother filed a police report on Thursday.

The Justice for AvaLynn Facebook page says AvaLynn was “attacked by another student on the school playground.”

Pascagoula Police Department Lt. Jim Roe told Gulflive.com on Friday that “there’s no indication something criminal took place.”

The Pascagoula School District’s statement added, “No other children were involved in the incident.”

Sunday morning the Justice for AvaLynn page directed media inquiries to Jesse Mitchell of the Mitchell Firm based in Ridgeland, Miss. AL.com has contacted Mitchell for comment.
