Manchester United linked star Ruben Pardo is set to renew his current deal at Real Sociedad.

After missing out on former La Liga midfielders Thiago and Javi Martinez amongst others over the past two seasons, Ruben Pardo looks set to join the list.

Manchester United’s midfield problem is renowned in the footballing world, and clubs know that the Red Devils are intent on bulking up that area this summer.

Spain’s top flight La Liga has been a hotbed for young, talented midfielders who are comfortable in possession and Manchester United have certainly sounded out a few potential signings in the Iberian Peninsula.

Amongst those is Real Sociedad’s Spanish U21 international midfielder Ruben Pardo.

The 21-year-old defensive midfielder is enjoying another excellent season for the Txuriurdin club, contributing to three goals and seven assists in 18 La Liga starts.

Engraved into the Spanish possession-based culture, Ruben Pardo has made over 1,000 passes this season with a success rate of 85.4% – comparable with Real Sociedad’s best.

As a result of his impressive performances, Ruben Pardo has caught the attentions of a number of clubs across Europe.

Unfortunately for potential suitors, it appears he will remain in the north of Spain as according to the press Marca, a new contract which will expire in 2018 or 2019 is close to being agreed, despite the likelihood of Real Sociedad failing to reclaim Champions League football for next season.

For Manchester United and David Moyes, it’s another potential blow in their pursuit for a midfield enforcer and they will have to move on to other targets if they wish to bolster their midfield ranks this summer.
