Safe Jobs For a Bad Economy

Every day we hear more and more news about the declining economy. Many people are wondering, if the economy does continue to decline into a recession, what the best job to be in is. What businesses are the most recession-proof? Experts say that healthcare and government-related jobs like working for a Long Beach process server or Glendale process server are some of the most secure jobs.

Though no job is completely secure, some industries tend to be more stable than others. Healthcare, IT, sales, clean technology, federal, and marketing jobs are among the most reliable in a recession. People need goods and services in normal circumstances, and they need them just the same when the economy is in a recession. People always need healthcare and pharmaceuticals, and the Baby-Boomer generation is getting older. As a larger percentage of the population becomes older, there will be more and more need for jobs in these businesses.

Jobs that require specialized skills are generally more secure than unskilled jobs. These skilled jobs include therapy, physical and occupational, and bioscience jobs, and are some of the safest jobs to be in in case of a recession. Although marketing and sales positions don’t necessarily require specialized skill sets. These jobs are relatively safe as long as the person working is making money for the company, experts say.

Jobs with the federal government are possibly the safest of all. They have great benefits, and very few of the approximately 2% of Americans who work for the federal government would be laid off in the event of a recession. A majority of government downsizing is a result of leaving empty positions open instead of filling them, so few people would be laid off.

Another recession opportunity is the internet. With jobs growing more and more scarce these days, and job losses increasing steadily, more people and more businesses are turning to the internet. If you create your own internet business, you can’t get laid off, although economic downturn will still affect your business. There are few specialized skills needed beyond basic computer skills to be successful in internet businesses. Job opportunities on the internet can pay very well, especially in relationship to the amount of work required. On an average day, more than 200 million people are connected to the internet in the U.S. alone.

Other areas are also somewhat safe. Teaching or other education jobs can be pretty safe, but it depends upon the area in which you are teaching. Energy is always a pretty safe bet. Things have to get pretty bad for people to stop needing utilities. Some areas in energy like nuclear and alternative energy are even projected to grow during a recession. International business can be a good opportunity for those with language skills, business ability, or experience traveling. Law enforcement and security are somewhat safe as well. However, in this field, expertise or specialized skills will be more of a benefit and safer. Sustainability and environmental protection opportunities are increasing. These jobs too will likely require some skills or knowledge in “green” policies.
