Dated August 31, 1946, this photograph was taken by Russell W. Lee as part of a survey of medical, health and housing conditions in coal mining communities. The caption reads: "Home of George Hoskins, his wife and ten children. This is a three room house renting for $ 6.75 monthly; the family has an electric refrigerator, washing machine, an iron, and pay $ 4.12 monthly for eletricity; Mr. Hoskins said, ‘We’ve lived in this house for eleven years, and it has leaked for eleven years.’ Coleman Fuel Company, Red Bird Mine, Field, Bell County, Kentucky, 08/31/1946"
