AILA South Florida Announces New Business and Investment Committee

AILA South Florida, one of the largest and most respected chapters of the national American Immigration Lawyers Association, today announced the launch of its new Business and Investment Committee. Created due to South Florida’s emergence as a national hotspot for foreign business and investment, this eight-member committee will help keep practitioners and the public up-to-date on the latest immigration law policies and changes.

Led by highly-experienced immigration attorneys Jordana Hart and Florence Chamberlin, AILA South Florida’s new Business and Investment Committee will engage with the media, chambers of commerce, consulates and other groups to highlight the positive contributions that foreign national businesses, investors and entrepreneurs make to our economy, such as the creation of jobs for U.S. workers. It will also host educational events in targeted areas of interest for practitioners and provide accurate information relating to business visa options and any changes in laws, regulations and policies concerning business immigration.

Nowhere is this work more relevant than in South Florida. Miami is the top destination in the U.S. for foreign buyers, and they bring great benefits with them. Foreign-owned companies created 92,000 jobs in South Florida in 2014, which is nearly 5% of all jobs created in the area. Last year, the City of Miami started the country’s first city-owned and operated EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program Regional Center. Plus, many of the country’s top practitioners in this area of immigration law live and work in South Florida.

“I am very excited to announce the launch of our Business and Investment Committee,” said recently elected AILA South Florida President Evan Shane. “AILA South Florida represents some of the most experienced and seasoned business immigration lawyers in the country, and so it is fitting that as an organization, we offer a specific means to network and to share accurate and professional business immigration expertise with the community.”

Committee Chairs Chamberlin and Hart added: “President Obama’s recent executive orders have brought about many important nuances to the arena of immigration law. This committee will ensure that lawyers, companies and the general public fully understand the latest intricate details and changes related to business and investment as well as the opportunities that exist for foreign business investors and entrepreneurs.”
